    Search Not Working

When doing a search for one word, that is heavily used in our forums, we get sent to this url with a blank page

    How can this be?

What can be the cause of it?

    Thank you.

The server is timing out before it can return any data. If you're running a big site and are on vB4 I would highly advise sphinx either directly from us or from a third party.

I am running VB 3.8, which is why I posted this in the VB 3.8 support forum brother.

What do you suggest for VB 3.8 to fix this?

Sphinx, still, just you'll need to do more work.

Now it is clear, thank you so much for your support.

One last question, if the search in VB is so weak, why not work to improve it, instead of referring to a third party software?

          Thank you.

The limitation is mysql for a search, we can make it better, but we're limited by the resources of mysql. MySQL's fulltext search is crappy as far as scaling goes. Its like asking us why we rely on php or mysql or javascript etc.

sphinx is a great fulltext search system. Its so much better than anything php/mysql would be able to natively offer.

Could this be the reason why (when searching) I get Internal Server Errors?

This started last year when I paid for a professional upgrade with VB, which futher required an mySQL upgrade.

                See
                https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/show...L-SERVER-ERROR

I now have another professional upgrade that is due to be performed.

Chances are a php or mysql error message is being returned and your php configuration is supressing it

You can also try the YapMap Visual Search Mod for another third party search engine.
