Is the DB closed to outsiders when I "close the site"

I'm having some issues with my site, and I closed the site (turned it off) The problem with the DB still occurred. The host is saying that even if I turn the site off, the DB must still be open.

Can someone confirm that when you turn off the site, the public can not access anything?

    Thanks

They can't access your site except for page telling them your site is closed. The database stays open.

So there is no way that you can "close" your DB without deleting it?

Don't know why you want to. You could change DB name I believe. And then change it back.

If you do this though, it'd probably be easier to change it in the includes/config.php file instead of the cPanel/phpmyadmin

The reason why your host is saying your DB is still getting hit is because it is. You're forum is still active just showing a closed message, it's still hitting the DB.
If you want to prevent the word from hitting your DB, put up a blank index page or change your config.php file to config.php.bak or whatever extension you want to add to it.
