Can someone confirm once and for all that vBulletin paid subscriptions (auto recurring) will still work if IPN setting is turned off in Paypal? I found a post from 3 years ago where a developer suggested this but the vB manual says to have it enabled with a fake notification URL as a placeholder (since Paypal requires a URL if you're going to have IPN turned on). I'm not sure who is right.
I'm getting failed transactions in the vb logs and probably have been for quite a while - I've always had issues with Paypal communicating with vB since I turned on paid subscriptions. I just received a warning from Paypal today about failed IPN attempts. It looks like all the failed attempts in the IPN history (on Paypal) is for subscriptions outside of vB's paid subscriptions - as I receive subscription payments from advertisers for the site outside of the built-in vBulletin subscription system through that same Paypal account. I figured if I just turn off IPN it would solve the issue, as long as it is not critical for the paid subscriptions system to work.
I find that some of the paid subscriptions end up having problems 25% of the time anyway and I have to go in and manually update them. So there's something wrong. My guess is it's a conflicting plugin. Any good way to identify a conflict with a plugin? I figured it would likely be a plugin that focuses on email, so I disabled a couple plugins that were made for HTML emails and one called EZbounce, which monitors bounced emails. I'll check to see if that has any affect over the next day or two. I'd love to finally get this fixed.
