    You broke my forum!

I tried running a database optimize procedure from the admincp, and your software broke the database!

That should not be allowed to happen.

Why did you run the table optimizer?

Saying its broken doesnt really give anyone any kind of scope to try and help you. Whats the error you are getting ? have you tried logging in to cpanel / MySQL and repairing/optimising the database again incase a table crashed while you were optimising ?>

In addition; the error that you are receiving is "User photocam_admin already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections" ; which means that the optimization task is probably still running and locking the database - which is why you are running out of the connections. It needs to finish.

FYI the Tasks in the maintenance area should only be run if you have been told to, or know why you need to run them. Some functions in mysql, like repair and optimize can damage the forum.

Well thanks a lot! How is anyone supposed to know that from you admincp?

Its just a fact of life, mysql doesn't even tell you, but it is possible.

LEt the mysql operations finish and your forums should be fine.

Because clicking on "last post" wasn't taking the user to the last post! I figured some database was messed up.

Well, cpanel is showing that Disk /dev/sda7 (/tmp) is at 100%

That is something you'd need to contact your webhost about. That is very bad

Well, I'll tell you what's very bad. What's very bad is your software. You have an option to optimize tables, but clicking it holds the potential to destroy six years worth of work. You guys suck. Your software sucks, and it sucks more with every release.

Correction, YOU broke your forum. As said above, that option shouldn't have even been run unless you were told to, or you know what you're doing.

That is a mysql function, not a function in vBulletin. We have it there, and if you know when and why you should use it, its fine.

Right now, your issue is that your webhosts tmp partition is filled, which means mysql (and thus vBulletin) cannot operate. You need to get your webhost to fix the issue with tmp being full. Once they do mysql can finish its stuff, and your forum will come back.

I would tell you that most forums that run MySQL would have the same repair/optimize features in their software.

Okay, it's fixed. I'll not use that "feature" again.

Here's a plug for Hostgator, which got us up and running again on our dedicated server.

So, you ran an option you dont understand, in the hope it might fix something it wont, and then try to blame its effects on "the software" ?

                              Not entirely reasonable.
