When purchasing a new license is there still the option to download version 3.8.7?

Yes. But you must buy a vBulletin 5 connect license(only option available now). You can download any software, VB 3, 4 and obviously 5.

That very much ridiculous on IB's part.

Not really....you buy the latest license but you can choose to run either the version the license applies to (in this case 5.0.0), *or* any earlier version.

Many software products would require you to purchase a separate older license, often at similar price to the current one, in order to do that.
