    Switching sites from a backup

For all I know, this isn't even possible, but I'm giving it a shot.

A few years ago I shut down my 3.8 site just because I was bored with it. Well, I decided I'm bored again and I want to re-upload the files and get it going again, if only to browse old posts for my own personal amusement.

The original domain has since been bought by an SEO backlink spammer, so I'm using a domain and host I currently use.

I created a new SQL DB and uploaded, via phpMyAdmin, a backup I had made right before I shut the site down. The import seems to have performed flawlessly (according to phpMyAdmin) but when I try to go to the subdirectory the forum is located in, I get a blank white page. No errors, no nothing, just a blank white page.

I'm pretty sure I've got everything set up correctly. Operative word there is "pretty", since I obviously don't, otherwise I'd be perusing through old threads.

Where's a good starting point to look for what's wrong? Typically I can go off of SQL error numbers, but I'm not even getting those?

Please see this for all the known causes of blank or 'white' pages:

Ah ha! I thought I had read that Blank Pages doc thoroughly, but not enough. It seems to be a hook problem.

On to the next problem. I can sort of log in. I enter my UID and PW, it accepts it, but kicks me back out to the login screen.

This is probably a cookie domain/path issue. To fix this, upload the tools.php script in the 'do_not_upload' folder of the vB zip file to your Admin CP directory and run it from your browser. Use this to reset the cookie domain and path back to the defaults. And then leave your cookie domain and path at the default settings. There is no reason to change these. If you need to specify a unique cookie, use the cookie prefix setting in config.php instead.

Also a blank page. Possible to change via phpmyadmin?

          Edit: I just realized I'm on 3.7.3, not 3.8.

                Right, sorry, that would help.

Upon trying to log in to the AdminCP: it will accept the UID and PW, but will send me right back to the ACP login screen. Trying to get to tools.php (when it's on the server) nets me a blank white page.

Can you try try re-downloading the ZIP file from the Members Area and re-upload all files (except install/install.php and includes/config.php.new) making sure you overwrite all files currently on your server. Also use this new version of the tools.php file.

                  Does this resolve the problem?

OK, that did work. I was able to get to tools.php and change the cookie domain. The old 3.7.3 files I had must have gotten corrupted somehow. The latest version I was able to download was 3.6.8, which is reflected in the AdminCP.

Actually, on the AdminCP homepage, I'm getting this:

                    Database error in vBulletin 3.7.3:

                    Invalid SQL:

                    SELECT COUNT(*) AS count
                    FROM vb3_moderation AS moderation
INNER JOIN vb3_post AS post USING (postid)
                    WHERE moderation.type='reply';

MySQL Error : Unknown column 'postid' in 'from clause'
                    Error Number : 1054

The database itself is 3.7.3. You need to download the 3.7.3 files and upload them.

OK, got that all sorted out. Now I just have to revert everything back to stock form and get rid of extraneous tables and templates. Thanks!
