I assume there is no need to buy this if, like me, you have a vB4 license but choose to stay with vB3.8.x?

It is for customers still on vB3.x licenses that want to make sure they can get 3.8.7.

Oh! Some important questions:

1. When does 3.8.7 come out?

2. Did I not read somewhere that you will always get security patches anyway or are you saying that you don't get security patches unless you get the maintenance pack?

3. I have a vb4 license but I am sticking with 3.8 at the moment. Do I still need the maintenance pack or am I covered because I have paid for the vb4 license?

1. Its already out.
2. Security patches released for vBulletin 3.8.x will be released for 3.8.7.
3. You do not need to take any action since you have a vB4 license.
