I found a couple of lines of code in INDEX.PHP which contained forumhome_markread_script. I deleted those two lines, but tests show no improvement in START RENDER time.

I'm running out of ideas to try.

Anyone able / willing to help? I'm willing to pay.

To summarize again, removing vbulletin_read_marker.js achieves faster LOAD TIME for my FORUMHOME and also for my FORUMDISPLAY. However, it also mysteriously slows down START RENDER time quite a lot.

You could always just leave the JS alone, you seem to be going to a lot of trouble for very little gain, but a lot of pain.

Yes, Paul, I could leave the .js file there, but I'd really like to get rid of it. With the .js file present, my home page has 7 http requests, but without it it only has 6 http requests. May not seem like much to most people, but I like to squeeze every little bit of performance out of it as possible.

At the moment the .js file is removed. Is there any way to determine what is still trying to fetch the .js file on my forum? Perhaps I need to edit something in some php file(s)?

Any ideas? I know this will not let me sleep till I hopefully solve it.
