Forum is fine until we reach 400 to 500 members online.

I am currently running (vBulletin 3.8.4 Patch Level 2)

    - vBulletin (Owned License)
    --- vBulletin Blog
    --- vBulletin Project Tools
    --- Branding Free Option

I am on a dedicated server Linux server running ubuntu 8 with Fasthost (DS450).

    Processor - 2 x 1.8 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory - 1GB
    Hard Disk - 250GB
    Bandwidth - Unlimited

I don't seem to have any problems with my forum and really happy until I get around 400 to 500 members online, it seems to slow down so much and then get a database error. I can only get online when the number of members leave.

I have spoken to my hosting company and they said that it shouldn't be the memory and can't help.

I don't know what to do and thought it would be a good idea to ask here

I do have mysql username & password if that helps?

    Thank you.

Dont give out your msql user/password here. Open a support ticket and if support needs it, give it to them.

Please check your Max Requests settings. Do you get a 'too many connections' error?

Thanks for your reply, I am not getting any 'too many connections' error, was when I was on a shared server, that's why I moved to a dedicated server.

Where can I find Max Requests settings?

Have a look in the http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum...-Configuration forum

you can change max connections in mysql my.cnf

        like this:
        Code:
        max_connections = 1000

Check your php.info for max requests. I have it in admincp > Maintenance > php.info
Not sure if I have added that along the way or if its default.

I can view that but not edit it, is this what I'm looking for, it's a massive list.
Just noticed that Max Per Connection is set to 100, I need at least 1000
I have a dedicated server not virtual.
And I have spent about an hour looking for Server Root /etc/ (I still can't see it)

As punchbowl suggests above, I'd post in the Server Optimisation forum to get some advice on how to tweak your settings to help vBulletin run better on your server.

You don't have a whole lot of procesing power going on there, that is a desktop class processor and an older one at that. You also have a dreadfully low amount of ram. Upgrades on all ends might be required.

                      Seems it is Virtual.

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...
