    Database error

    Urgent help!

We have been looking at moving hosts and this afternoon, I managed to get at FTP client to connect to our current host, however I didn't download anything because I'm not sure what I was doing.

I went back on to our forum and I got the message that the database doesn't exist!!!

In our Plesk control panel everything looks normal, the database is still there but it's like they aren't 'speaking' to each other anymore!

Any ideas for an urgent fix for this please?

    Please keep it VERY simple.

Sorry, Plesk says that the forum is up and running, but the URL takes us to a page not found page. We are complete noobs at this running forum stuff!

Does this mean our database still exists somewhere, or is it lost? And can we export our database to a new server?

Sorry for all the q's...like I said - we are numpties.

Your forum redirects me to some wiki page. Anyway, check for the name of the db at the config.php file then go to the cp of your host and then phpmyadmin, select the name of your db and export it.

It redirects because it is missing the : in the url

You need to contact your current host. Either they are having server configuration troubles or they have removed your account.

Save anything you can still access.
If you can login to your Plesk control panel, try to download a copy of your database if you are allowed.
If you can FTP into your site, download everything to a folder on your local PC.
If you read it online, it must be true.

What is FTP and how do I download the DB?

You said in your first post:
I managed to get at FTP client to connect to our current host
See this link for some FTP help:

I don't use Plesk so I can't help you there.

I can see your over your head here. You need help from a host.
                      • Contact your existing host to resolve these issues. Or,
                      • Get a new hosting company that will attempt to recover your website and database for you.
If you read it online, it must be true.

The files are not that important. What is the most important thing is the db. Without it everything will be lost.

LOL! Sorry, that was admin one, I am admin two. She pressed something and everything went...this forum stuff seems so much easier when other people are doing it! So, if we join another server they may be able to get our DB back?

If your data is still on the server and your current host is not blocking you from accessing it, then yes, a new web host should be able to recover everything and migrate your site for you.
