Preventing new users from having account page active until after email verification

I'm using vBulletin 3.8.5 and am fed up with spammers who join my forum just to create an account with spam links on their user account page. I'd like to have email verification set up in such a way that their account won't be visible to users (i.e. http://www.mysite.com/myforum/member.php?u=xxx) until after they have received an email and clicked a link in it. This way I can set up the email to say something like "To complete your registration you must click the link in this email. PLEASE NOTE: if you are setting up an account simply for the purpose of putting spam links on your account page it will be deleted within 24 hours." My hope is that if I can do this then most spammers won't bother completing the registration and I won't have to keep deleting "new users" (spammers) every day.

I'd also like to configure my notification so that I won't get a New User email until AFTER they have completed email registration. This way if someone creates a new account and then sees in the email that there's no point in continuing and doesn't complete it, I won't get bothered with a notification and their account will never be visible to anyone. Is there a way for me to set this up?

I know I can configure the forum so that new users can't post until responding to an email challenge. But I'm getting lots of spammers who don't join to post - they just want to create a user page with spam links.

Sorry, there is no function to do this. This requires modifying the code. We cannot officially support code modifications or forums running modified code, however you can try searching or asking for help with this over at www.vbulletin.org.

You can not stop spammers.
I have been using Prevent Spam Posts for some time.
Enter keywords, WOW, nike, playstation, etc. It puts those posts into moderation.
At least this way your members don't see it.
Then delete as spam.

I also don't allow new users to send PMs until they have 5 posts using a promotion.
You can probably also disable signatures from new members using the same promotion.

You haven't actually obfuscated your domain name here.. I can see it in the last part of the hyperlink.

Ummmm, Tevor? Why not prevent the usergroup from being able to modify their profile? It is an option in the usergroup settings.

It's blocking the ability to see a new registrant's profile, not modifying it. As far as I'm aware, you can't block profiles for certain usergroups although I could be wrong (at the end of a long day...).

The plugin I wrote to hide banned users profiles from all but Admins is over at vBCodex,

It could be very easily modified to hide profiles for any group.

hook location: member_execute_start

and the code is simply:

if ($userinfo['usergroupid'] == XX AND $vbulletin->userinfo['usergroupid'] <> 6)

Change XX to the group id that you do not want to have their profile shown.

I didn't upload this to .org, it's just a simple plugin (which works with 4.x as well) I created for a member at vBCodex.

I dont see what the big deal is? Guest do not need to see your members profiles anyway.

When I get my site online, viewing of members profiles by guests will be a must. I have it set so that banned users profiles can not be viewed, and as well I modified the code so that my news bots profile can not be viewed by anyone.

Since I couldn't really get this to work I moved on to the next best thing: the vbStopForumSpam plug-in. Works great!

Be sure to also see http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showp...&postcount=288 for the code to add so you are able to easily submit spammers to the www.stopforumspam.com database. That way if a spammer gets through to your board they won't get through to the next one.
