What happens exactly if you delete a sub-forum from the AdminCP?

So I was wondering, if a subforum is deleted through the admincp > forums & moderators > forum manager what will happen?
Are threads and post contained in that forum physically deleted? What about attachments? If threads and posts are not physically deleted, would creating a sub-forum with the appropriate forumid and forum-children-ids make it work as if nothing has happened?

They wouldn't get deleted, if you want to delete them you can go to Update Counters & choose to delete orphan threads or posts.

If you delete a forum it will warn you that you're about to delete the post and threads as well. What I would suggest is move the threads via the admincp > threads > move: and then delete the forum. Unless you want to delete the post in that forum as well, in that case, go nuts.
