Limit Number of posts Per Thread ?

    I have vb 3.8.

We are trying to find all possible ways to reduce the server load and increase the speed.

Some one recommended us to limit number of posts to 500 per thread. So, we are trying to create new threads when posts exceed 500 in any thread.

Is this good idea ? Or is there another number that helps ?

    TIA

You may have better luck asking this question over at vbulletin.org, as this would require a mod, these forums are for default installations only.

btw i don't think it will really matters that some of your threads have 500 posts as they would not all be loaded at the same time, you have several pages in each thread, unless you have your paging set to 500.

I don't think splitting them up would make much difference.

Have you tried optimising your database tables via the acp.

You could reduce the default number of posts viewed per page to speed up page loading times also.
