I have a large forum. I even set this setting to 1 from default 100 and at some point the task hangs. What's exactly the setting that needs to be increased at the server side?

Oh boy, I used to know the answer to this... if I recall, I looked in my error_logs and the answer was in there. wait_timeout? Darned, sorry, hopefully someone else will come along with the answer. (you know you can continue on by just going to /misc.php?do=updatesimilar&startat=xxxxx&pp=yy where xxxxx is the threadid to startat and pp is per page. )
