Resource Use Over 3.6?

Ok, this may be a daft question but how is 3.8's resource use compared to 3.6? We've got some serious issues with our server resources at the moment (load of over 100, memory usage at least 75%) and I'd like to make use of some of 3.8's optimisation modifications but if 3.8 uses more resources than 3.6 I'll stay where I am.

BTW, before its said I'm looking at server upgrades but my co-admin isn't exactly being the most helpful at the moment on that front!
