Question about emailing users

Is there anything special I need to do in order to configure the send email functionality. I have tried several times to send an email to the users we have set up and it is not working. At first I thought it might have been a problem with the from address not being whitelisted with , so I tried an email address outside of our company firewall and that did not work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What have you set for outgoing mail in here:

AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Email Options

Are you using SMTP Email or the PHP mail() function? If the former, are the settings correct? Latter - have you checked that the mail is actually being processed by the server? Is it in your junk mail if it's going from your email address back to the same address? Do you have rules setup to prevent you receiving mail from your own address?
