Ban user question

Besides banning a user by entering the users name in the Ban user area of the admin panel, can I ban a user by another method. I have noticed that some banned users on my forum eventually make it back in with a new user name & email address. When I ban a user it is permanent. I've had one person make it back in two times. Can I do it with an IP address? Where do I find that kind of info on a person. I tried it one time & could not get the ban to work.

You can ban IPs here:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> User Banning Options -> Ban IP Addresses

Banning by IP is almost worthless unless someone has a static IP address.

Then I assume the only Banning method on vbulletin is by the user name. I thought there was another way also, but I guess not by your reply.

No, you can ban by IP, email domain and ban individual accounts.

Is one method of banning more effective than another. That is email vs account, etc.

Problem is: You'll never be able to ban 100%. Users who know what they are doing will always be able to change their IP (for most users it rotates anyway) or get a new email address - there's free providers by the dozen. There really isn't much vB can do about that.
