I just moved a database from an old forum to a new forum. Pms from the old forum are showing in the new forum database but not on the forum itself. Is there somewhere I need to go to update/restore pms for the board. I didn't see anything in the update counters section.

What do you mean they are showing in thr database? Also how did you backup and restore the db?Steve Machol, former vBulletin Customer Support Manager (and NOT retired!)

I can see them in the database after I restored them to it but I don't see them showing on the forum. When I restored the database I went to update counters and updated the counters so now the users, threads and posts from the old forum are showing. Is there somewhere to do the same for pms.Comment

See them where in the database? What do you see exactly? There is more than one PM table.Steve Machol, former vBulletin Customer Support Manager (and NOT retired!)

Then I'm afraid you have a bad backup. If the backup and restore was done correctly, then PMs would work automatically. They do not need any counter update.
I suggest doing a new backup. The only consistently reliable method of backing up and restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. This is because backing up with a PHP script like that in the Admin CP or phpMyAdmin can result in PHP timeout errors and an incomplete backup file.
Please see the instructions here:

Restore:
If you don't have telnet or SSH access, some people have reported success with these scripts:
MySQLDumper:
MySQLHotxcopy:
