updating signature for all existing threads

Is there a way to update all existing threads to show the new forum signature I have now? I edited just a minute ago, and I went to "update counters" but the option I choose for signatures did not work.

Is there a way to do it so my new signature will show the way it looks now in all my existing posts?

Sigs will not automatically appear in posts that were made when no sig was available. You would have to run this query to add the sigs to those posts:

UPDATE post SET showsignature='1' WHERE userid='x';

...with 'x' being your userid number.

To run SQL Queries:
AdminCP -> Maintenance -> Execute SQL Query

Ensure you have permissions to execute/run SQL Queries by editing the */includes/config.php file and change X to your user ID.

It looks like you're using a table prefix. Try running UPDATE vb.post SET showsignature='1' WHERE userid='1';

Nick is right, although that may not be your table prefix. You can check your config.php file to see what table prefix you are using.
