3.8.1 - Current Best Way to Prevent Auto-spam / Bots / etc. from clogging the forum?

I just purchased an upgraded license to 3.8.1 (I was using 3.0.6 previously), due to user complaints about auto spam postings (bots registering user names and posting one or two postings max on a daily basis - pornbots, russian, etc.).

Imagine my vast disaapointment after upgrading to see no decrease in the number or amount of spam postings / registrations per day.

I do not run my board full time, and I have a day job... I just don't have time to sit there every day and ban each registration from a spammer, then physically remove their threads.

I have read through some of the extremely lengthy threads on this vb forum on this topic, but I want to just cut to the chase, and ideally would like to hear from vbulletin staff on this topic...

Q for vbulletin staff: Outside of a custom, elaborate database driven blacklist setup like one member on this forum posted that I read about, what is the current best setup in vbulletin, as per the vbulletin system settings and tools, for blocking spambots and how do you go about setting those settings in vbulletin?

Ideally I'm looking for an answer that would be something like:

use tool xyz, in the admin menu, set settings to the following
use tool abc, in the admin menu, set settings to the following

    etc.

    Looking forward to your response!
