Delete as spam, what exactly is this?

I feel so unbelievably stupid asking this, but what exactly is the purpose of the "Delete as Spam" versus a regular delete?

When you delete as spam you can also choose to ban them, delete their other posts and threads, and submit the data to aksimit if you've got it configured.
