    upgrading to latest php version

We are currently running an older version of PHP and plan on upgrading to the latest version of PHP.

Is there anything we should be aware of when upgrading the php software on the server end?

Make sure not to disable the XML functions. Make sure to enable MySQL and/or, GD (with Freetype 2) and CuRL functions. You should also install APC functions if you do not have another opcode cache installed.
