    Test forum

Hello, I was wondering if vBulletin allows license holders to have a test forum. If it is okay to have one what are the requirements?

If you have a valid Software license, you may set up an additional test forum in order to test code, template and database modifications. To make this clear to us and our license verification procedures, place it in a directory called 'testvb' and be sure to password protect it. It must not be accessible by the general public.

      hi,

Yes you are allowed to have one "testvb" installation for every licence purchased provided:
      • you place it in a directory called "testvb"
      • the testvb installation is not accessible by the public (htaccess it)

htaccess is password protection (the little login dialog that pops up when you click a link) example members.vbulletin.com this login window is done through htaccess you can read more about this feature here and yes your url can be www.server.com/testvb/ then the testvb part is what you need to protect with a password

Thank you, I will try that out.

Do I have to inform vBulletin once I have the test Forum setup?

No, you dont' have to inform us. We have a call home system inside vBulletin - your usage is recorded in your customer account and we will notice it there.

Thank you Floris for that link,

When I log in to my test forum and then go to my live forum I have to sign in and if I leave and go to my test I have to sign in, why can't I stay log in on both. Im selecting the remember me option but still it logs me out.

Obviously the test forum should not use the same database as the live site.

Then in the testvb set cookie prefix in config.php from bb to vb
so it's unique compared to the other site on the same domain. allowing better cookie management.

Do you have Windows or Linux hosting? Is your web server Apache?
