    To troubleshoot this, first reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file. Then run 'Suspect File Versions' in Diagnostics to make sure you have all the original files for your version and that none show 'File does not contain expected contents':

    Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Suspect File Versions

    [Note: In some cases you may also need to remove any of the listed .xml files in the includes/xml directory.]

    Next, disable all plugins.

    Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

    define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

    Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it.

    Do you have the same problem?

      Wow. Great answer. But this is a brand new install. I don't have any plug ins. Do I really have to do all of that ? Do me a favor. Go to www.blackfinowners.com/forums. Do you see what I mean.

      I possibly didn't understand or execute correctly your instructions to reset counters. Can you be more specific as to the actual names of the counters. I really appreciate your help.

        Well since this is not something I can verify with the default vB code and templates, it's a normal troubleshooting step to make sure everything is back to the defaults.

          This is actually the correct behaviour for your setup. You have set your categories to require a password to enter them although you have not set it to be inherited by your forums. As an admin, you are exempt from requiring the password to enter the categories.

          Your options are:

          1. Remove the passwords from the categories and use the default permission set for your categories and forums
          2. Remove the password from the categories and use forum permissions to control access
          3. Set the passwords for the categories to be inherited by the child forums and use the extra passwords for access to the forums
          4. Leave it as it is (very inefficient as it causes this behaviour and does not have any effect on access unless you click on the category instead of a forum)

            Oh my gosh. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You ROCK ! That was what I needed. I knew it was a switch somewhere.

            Cheers.
