    New Setup Questions

    Hello ,

I have set up a new bulletin board www.blackfinowners.com/forums.

I have pretty much figured out everythng so far but am having problems with two issues.

    1. When I look at the home page, I see the numbers of threads and replies. Others only see 0's. Can't figure that one out.

    2. My threads are being listed "new to old" I want it "old to new". When I change the descending/ascending order for that forum, nothing changes. Is there some other way to accomplish this?

    Thanks mucho. Love the program.

    1. Try rebuilding the thread and forum counters in that order:

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Update Counters

    2. Look for the Thread Display settings in vBulletin Options. This sets the default view mode for new members:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> User Registration Options -> Thread Display Mode -> Linear - Oldest First

To reset options for existing users:

Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Execute SQL Query -> Automatic Query -> Posts - Oldest First

    Then click on 'Continue'.

And finally to do this just for yourself:

User CP -> Edit Options -> Thread Display Options -> Thead Display Mode -> Linear - Oldest First

Thank you for your quick reply

Well, it didn't work. I am logged in as admin. When I tell it I want to execute SQL Query it tells me I am not authorized.

As far as the the numbers of threads and posts goes, I did what you said but it didn't change anything that I can tell. My friends still say they see zeros even if they refresh the page.

      Help! lol

To run queries you first need to give yourself permission to run queries in the Admin CP. To do this, edit this section of config.php:

        $config['SpecialUsers']['canrunqueries'] = 'x';

...with x being your userid number.

I apologize for the difficulty. Believe it or not, I added my user number into my config.php file and I still can't do queries. I copied and paste so I know I got it right. There's no extra spaces or anything.

Don't know what I did wrong but I still can't querie.

Do I need to be able to do the SQL query in order to fix my problem with my threads and posts showing all zeros?

What is your userid and what does that line look like?

That is your customer number, not your userid. You need to use your userid for you forum account.

Okay. I am really trying to not ask dumb questions. When you say "user id", you mean "admin"? That is how I am logged into the admin cp.

I tried using the user id I have for MySQL but that didn't work either.

I'm sorry but I am at a loss.

Click on your username and have a look at the URL.
In my case it looks like this here on vB.com:

                    My user ID is: 98826

In your forum your ID is most probably: 1

Maybe someone can be so kind to remove it from the public eyes .

What beishe8 said will show you how to find your userid on your own site.

Excellent. Thanks for putting up with me. I would have never figured that out. Okay. I did the Queries to update stuff.

                          Now.

I still haven't resolved the issue where people who go to my forum www.blackfinowners.com/forums only see zeroes under the columns for threads and posts.

On my computer I don't have that problem.

                              Any thoughts on my problem?
