      I was looking through the my.cnf file and I noticed that the max connections under [mysqld] and [my.sql.server] are set to 4500. Could this be what is causing the errors, this is the only thing I have been able to come up with thus far. Everything else seems to be ok according to the link provided above. The max user connections is also set to 32. This would be way to low for our site.

        No, you'll get a completely different error if the issue was max connections. However if this is a dedicated server, the user connection limit of 32 is crazy tiny considering your max is 4500.

          I bumped the user connections up as well as added a line to my.cnf file. [client]
          socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

          Hopefully this will do the trick. This is happening intermittently and if I reboot it goes away.

              MySQL is down, or unable to connect. Its just the php/MySQL error that vBulletin is reporting. Your overall max_connections seems way too high. I'd suggest lowering it maybe 500, and removing the per user limit.

                At least from what I can see it does not go down, I try to get in and check once I get the emails but that may be too late. I made the changes you suggested. Thank you.

                  Still getting the errors. I setup a monitor to see if I can see anything happening in MySQL. The odd thing is I just got an error from this morning but an hour ago the error was from 10:00 am????
