Upgraded to 3.8.4 PL2, users are reporting cookie type issues

They are telling me, they have to re-login everytime they visit the website.

This happened ever since I installed PL2 update this afternoon.

The change forced users to log in again - when they did so, did they remember to check the 'Remember Me' box again?
          Vote for:

          - Admin Settable Paid Subscription Reminder Timeframe (vB6)
          - Add Admin ability to auto-subscribe users to specific channel(s) (vB6)

Same thing and in addition, recent posts cache was lost! So everyone's complaining. I advised to reset the browser cache. My "Recent Posts" was now rebuilding until a minute ago when it cleared itself again! Anyone else have this problem?

                What to do?

We have exactly the same problem. The forum logs the users out all the time. Kicks me out of Administrator CP. Some users relied on cookies for password and never remembered the password. Now I had to help them reset their passwords. The patch brought a lot of hustle to people. Can we get a fix, please?

Can we get an answer on this? There appears to be quite a few of us experiencing these problems and have members who are not happy!

An answer to what exactly ?

PL2 changes the main Cookie Salt - which invalidates everyones forum cookie, meaning they will be logged out when their session expires. When they login again they must check remember me to store the details again.

Anyone still having issues after that has a corrput cookie, and should delete it (sorry, but how depends on your browser).

Knowing what browser your members are using would be a big help to solving this.

The new salt in my particular PL2 is 49 characters long, versus a short salt (under 15 characters) in previous versions. IIRC Firefox doesn't like cookies over a certain length, and the new salt might be long enough to push the cookie over the threshold.

Edit to add: per RFC, a cookie's maximum length is 4k. Firefox will refuse to set a cookie over 4096 bytes, where IE will discard anything over 4095 bytes (leaving a 4095 byte cookie).
