    Database errors on upgrade. 3.7.6 -> 3.8.4

    Running this on an alternate test DB to make sure everything went find on the upgrade and I can't even get upgrade.php to show. This occurs even if I remove all files, plug my config.php into the dir (I edited my parameters into the new config.php.new and copied that to config.php.) Please help!

    There is no phrasetypeid column in the vB 3.6 and up database tables, so it looks like the files you have on the server are from an older version of vBulletin, possibly 3.5, so reupload the the 3.8.4 files to the server again, making sure they overwrite the files currently there.

      Thank you for your reply. As mentioned in the OP, I have done that. I have downloaded the 3.8.4 files and even tried the upgrade from a fresh install, not overwriting files, I deleted all files and put ONLY the 3.8.4 files in place. The problem persists.

        Unknown column 'phrasetypeid' in 'where clause' in /usr/www/mmobugs.com/public_html/forums_tmp/includes/class_core.php on line 408
        That error means that a query in the class_core.php file is trying to query based on the phrasetypeid column, but phrasetypeid is not in vB 3.8.4. Using your FTP client, go to the /usr/www/mmobugs.com/public_html/forums_tmp/includes directory and view the class_core.php file. At the top of that file will be the version number. What is it?

          Perhaps the error is from a plugin? Do you have plugins enabled or disabled right now?

            vBulletin 3.8.4

            This is a fresh installation. Downloaded 3.8.4 from the website and put it in a directory by itself, the only difference is my config.php and even that is just an edited config.php.new.

            I thought of this also and disabled ALL plugins, problem persists.

              This has to be from a modification or bad file/template. To troubleshoot this, first reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server. Also be sure to upload the admincp files to whichever directory you have set in your config.php file. Then run 'Suspect File Versions' in Diagnostics to make sure you have all the original files for your version and that none show 'File does not contain expected contents':

              Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Diagnostics -> Suspect File Versions

              [Note: In some cases you may also need to remove any of the listed .xml files in the includes/xml directory.]

              Next, disable all plugins.

              Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php

              define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

              Then if you still have this problem, create a new style and choose no parent style. This will force it to use the default templates. Finally empty your browser cache, close all browser windows then try again. Make sure you change to the new style and view your forums with it.

              Do you have the same problem?

                No offense, but please read what I wrote...

                I get this problem if the ONLY files I use are the files from the download. I have zero, none, zip, nada, no files in the directory that did not come from the zip (with the single exception of config.php as stated earlier.) This is not because of some modified file, this is not because of a version problem with the files.

                EDIT: To be extra clear. Yes, I get these problems if I use my regular install with all the custom crap. I ALSO get this problem with nothing but the bare files from the zip.

                    Just turn mysql.trace_mode in your php.ini to Off and the problem goes away.

                    Thank you all who replied and I hope this solution helps someone else in the same position in the future.
