Can tools.php be run from any folder?

    Hi,

Can the tools.php scripts be ran from any folder on the server or is it limited to the admincp and install folders?

    Thanks

I believe the paths in the file would cause the script to break if you ran it from, say, the regular forums directory (and also, it is hard coded to give you a warning if you don't put it in one of those directories).

Please don't PM or VM me for support - I only help out in the threads.

If I post CSS and you don't know where it goes, throw it into the additional.css template.

It must be run from the admincp folder.

        Thanks guys!

So if it was run, for example, from the /install folder, nothing could be accomplished, i.e. no-one could upgrade an account to admin if the tools.php file was in the /install folder. It NEEDS to be in the admincp folder before it will work?

        Thanks

Sorry I don't understand the confusion. Tools.php is designed to run from the admincp directory. Why is that being questioned?

If placed in any other directory, it will show an error while running telling to put it in admin directory.

btw, you must delete it immediately after use.

I'm protecting the admincp folder with a password and I was wondering if I needed to protect all others, looks like it's just admincp.

              Thanks for the confirmation.

I suggest protecting admincp, modcp, install, and includes with .htaccess.
