Do tags help with google search rankings?

Hi folks.

Do the tags play any part in improving search engine ranking? Or do tags only help with searching within a forum, using the forum search box? Basically, should users bother with tags at all?

Tags have no effect on SEO. Google considered tags to be the equivalent of keyword stuffing and eliminated them as a marker in their algorithm. They do help with searches.
