So I am constantly getting reports from members that when they have notifications to read at times they are not linked to anything. After further research I determined that when a reply or comment is deleted the notification that was sent out to the affecting user stays but it is linkless. Is there any kind of work around to stop this from happening?

I wonder if it is a 'deletion notice' permission? If your members are not permitted to see the deletion notices then there is nothing to redirect them to from the notification when a post has been deleted.
Could you try it with a moderator who has permission to see deletion notices. Get them to subscribe to a thread, make a post and delete it, then see what happens with their notification, is it clickable and takes them to the deleted notice.
Then again I could be completely wrong and it's nothing to do with that👍 1 -
Thanks Mrs T
So I logged in as a regular user and started a thread. ( For reference user A)
Then I responded to that post using another account (For reference user B)
I went back to user A and saw the notification alert
Then from the user B account I soft deleted the reply
Back to user A with the still active notification
Then clicked the notification link which gives me this
Sorry, you are not authorized to view this page.
Please try logging in or logging in as different user Login or send a message to the admin
So this above message comes up because the alerted post was soft deleted.
Then the member or members contacts me going on about the dead end link.
The other day I had to clean up some posts by removing them as an Admin. This caused lots of users to get this response. We do allow users to soft delete posts within a certain allotted time frame. Shouldn't this notification be automatically removed from a users account when a post is deleted?
When viewing as a moderator it takes me to the deleted postLast edited by Carrfixr; Mon 7 May '18, 5:24am.Comment

Notifications are sent when the content is created. Notifications aren't deleted when the content is deleted. I am guessing this is spam or something else that isn't desired on the site. You should inform the user of this. An improvement request can be made to delete unread notifications when content is deleted and the user no longer has permission to view it.Translations provided by Google.

The site team is looking into resolving this. Seems to be a permission issue with Cloud Customers. I apologize for the inconvenience.Translations provided by Google.

by Rollo55Hi Is there any way to send a notification to the thread/post owner if Administrator delete/soft delete that thread/post? Or any way to show the reason for deletion? vBulletin 5.7.2 Thanks
