    Managing and Placing Ads.

Displaying your Ads in vBulletin 5 Connect
Using Site builder, you can place ads in a variety of places in vBulletin 5 Connect. Most ads are placed using modules and as such can be placed wherever a module can be placed. There are also a couple of options for globally placed ads within the software. These include two ad positions above the header, within the first post content of a topic and within the last post content of a topic.

To continue make sure that Site Builder is enabled by clicking on the Edit Site toggle to the right of your username.

    Understanding the Ad Module.
All advertising inserted will use a variable of the Ad Module. The ad module is a fairly powerful module in the Site Builder Arsenal. It can accept any HTML similar to the Static HTML Module but has a variety of options to control who can see it and when it can be seen. As such you can create modules that fit a wide variety of needs outside of your typical advertisement. When configuring the module, it allows for a title, the content of the ad, and provides a variety of options to configure how it is displayed. The module looks like the image to the right. Most of the options should be fairly self-explanatory. However they are listed below with descriptions.
    Module Options:Click for larger version.
    • User belongs to Usergroup. If the user is in the specified usergroup, they will see the ads. Only one usergroup can be specified. Useful to show additional ads to your unregistered guests.
    • User does not belong to Usergroup. If the user is in any usergroup but the one specified, they will not see the ads. This can be useful if you sell paid subscriptions. By not showing ads to paid members, you provide an incentive for them to support your site.
    • User is browsing a Content/Non-Content page. Content pages are forums, blogs, articles and social groups. Non-content pages are the help pages, user settings, who’s online and other supporting pages.
    • User is browsing a specific forum. This can be useful if you sell sponsorships or general ads to specific forums.
    • User is browsing a specific forum or one of its child forums. An enhanced version of the above so that child forums automatically inherit ads from their parent. The following options can be used to encourage activity. The more active they are, the fewer ads they see.
    • User has not visited for XX days or more. User has not posted for XX days or more (but has posted previously)
    • Users post count is between YY and ZZ posts.
    • User has never posted.
    • User has between YY and ZZ reputation points.
    • User landed on this page via search engine
    • These options can be used for specific requirements on ad campaigns, contests or games based on the time and date.
    • The date is DD-MM-YYYY [Time Zone]
    • The time is between HH:MM and HH:MM (uses 24 hour format)

    Inserting Ads into the Header
To use the header ad locations, enable Site Builder by toggling the Edit Site button to on. In the Site Builder menu, click on Header. On the right, there will be options for using 1 ad or 2 ad positions. Choose the one you want and click on the green edit button. The ad configuration module will appear.

    Follow these steps:
    1. Give your new ad a recognizable title.
    2. Place your ad in the content box.
    3. Make sure to check the “Active” box to enable it completely.
    4. Under this are a series of options. Each of these are optional so configure them to fit your needs.
    5. When you’re done with the configuration, click the green Attach button at the bottom to save your ad and attach it to the location.
    6. Repeat this process for the second location if you want two ads.
    7. When you are finished, save your header using the Save Changes button at the top of the page.

    Inserting Ads within Post Content
Another common place for advertising is within the first post of a topic and the last post of a topic. You can do this using Site Builder as well. To get started navigate to any topic on your site. Once there, make sure that Site Builder is enabled by toggling the Edit Site button to on. Now click on “Edit Page” in the Site Builder Menu. Once you’re in page editing mode hover over the edit icon for the Conversation Detail Module. You’ll receive a popup with three options. Choose either the “Add First Post Content Ad” or “Add Last Post Content Add”.
