I have been looking at both constructs and they appear virtually identical. What are the differences?

Groups are almost like personal forums where the group owner has moderation rights and can dictate who joins. Like forums they are designed for full discussions.
Blogs are literally just a personal weblog and whilst other users can comment, they aren't really designed for discussions, just for the blog owner to "spout off" so to speak.MARK.B
