Can database only be exported to move to VB connect?

Is this correct? If one were to wish to change forum softwares then they would first be required to purchase a copy of VB connect and then be able to get a copy of their database?

No, Cloud customers can request a copy of their database at any time and there's no cost in doing so.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. Wasn't sure as the information about moving offsite stipulated a VB5 connect purchase should first be made.

If you want to move offsite and run vBulletin, then yes you need to purchase a vBulletin Connect license to do so.
If you are moving to other softwre then you do not need to buy our license, though you will need a license for the softwre you plan to use, obviously.

Right right. I don't plan on moving at the moment but was wondering for when my forum grows as I'm unsure yet if I'll stick with VB or move to another script.
