UK-based host for very large forum

Can anyone recommend a decent host for us? Host should be UK-based due to various reasons.

We're running the latest version of vBulletin 3.8. Database size is 3.8 gbs. Over 1.1 million posts, and approx 1,100 new posts per day.

    Cheers

Thanks Mark. I will give them a call in the morning.

I have to confess to not being overly clued up on the jargon; what is the difference between Cloud VPS and Cloud VM, and also the different Memory sizes?

      Cheers

VPS are vServers that you need to manage by yourself (installing updates etc.) while VMs are vServers that are managed by the hosting company. Same Power but you don't need to do the work with setting up stuff but you pay more. If you are fine with doing all the work get a VPS

VPS and VM, I AFAIK is nearly same, with the difference being the technologies being used for virtualization. Parallels Virtuozzo for VPS and VMware / ESXi calls it VM. VMware is supposed to be a better / safer technology, so you may want to go with it if everything else is same.

I agree, VPS and VMs are pretty much the same. Virtuozzo is one to avoid in my opinion. It allows hosts to easily oversell servers and can be quite unreliable.

For the specs OP will require he'd be paying out his arse with Tim.

If OP needs managed services, Tim is a go I suppose. If OP can manage his own VPS server, he should get an unmanaged plan with the likes of prometeus.net (Italian but cheap, great quality on their KVM machines and a lot of resources)
