    Which Host?

Hello! I just got VBulletin. What host should I use? I will pay maximum $30 a month. I would like VPS Hosting, what host should I use? I would like to get an Australian Host supporting VBulletin, I would like VBulletin Free Installation. Also, don't say Siteground or TMDHosting because I need a non-prepaid MasterCard, and I need one. So any hosts that allow non-prepaid Mastercard? It's from PayPal.

    Thanks!

You won't find many hosts that offer a VPS for $30, but I know 1&1 does. I use them and couldn't be happier.

They do not offer installation of vBulletin nor are they located in Australia, but they are fantastic.

$30 a month for a VPS? Are you specifically looking for an incredibly under specced server?

And, that 'free installation' is easy. You do it yourself and not pay anyone.

$30 /month WILL NOT get a decent VPS, let alone one in Oz.
That said http://www.photonvps.com/xen.html Warp 2 would be ok, but it sounds like you also need cPanel

                Hi Simon,

You aren't going to be able to run vBulletin on a $30/mo VPS. vBulletin really has no need for a VPS unless you have a large community or have custom coding/plugins that requires server side modules (ex: Sphinx Search). Any decent shared host should be able to handle vBulletin.

That being said I'll throw in my vote for MDDHosting. Their services are awesome and prices are reasonable. Mike, the owner is always on top of things, very approachable, and easy to work with. I currently run a reseller account (that hosts several vBulletin clients) and a VPS for my forum on MDD. No complaints here.

Yes, actually, you are. I've run multiple installations of vBulletin on mine simultaneously.

It most certainly will, just not in Australia.

How much traffic are you running through those boards? On average I'm using roughly a GB of RAM for my small-medium sized board on a cPanel server.

I left 1&1 in the dust a long time ago. I don't know if their VPS offerings are any good but shared hosting was horrible for database powered sites.

Not a ton, although, it seems that I have been allotted more RAM than I pay for, so I don't have issues with RAM. And RAM is cheap. It also takes a lot of traffic or a horrible server config to use 2GB of memory.

Anyway, I haven't heard anything good about their shared hosting but as far as VPSes go, I could not be happier. Support is 24/7, on the ball, and fantastic.

For $30 you can get a decent managed VPS from knownhost. I have 2 boxes there and for over a year it's been great. You have to pay for cpanel though. Applying a coupon or something, the price would be slightly over $30.

If you have a better budget, I'd recommend wiredtree. Their entry plan is $49 and it's fast and stable. The best part is their support that ALWAYS responds to my tickets within 15 minutes. Never seen any host does that.
Every time I think of a potential way to delight people, I make a website. Otherwise I'm looking for the web hosting deals.

I personally use wiredtree.com for my VPS/servers for my forums. But if you're really needing an Australian based web host expect to pay more per month compared to USA based web hosts as you may know everything is more expensive in Australia

You might want to check out http://www.serversaustralia.com.au/virtualservers.php - haven't personally used them myself but only realised recently a long time fellow forum member on a hardware enthuiast forum i also frequent is the owner of http://www.serversaustralia.com.au so decided to see their offerings and for Australian based web host prices and offerings seem relatively decent. Of course we Aussies pay alot more for our bandwidth

They currently have 20% off discount http://www.serversaustralia.com.au/s...ial-offers.php

                          I'd say start with E5 2 cpu, 1GB, 25GB storage + 10GB backup space and 200GB bandwidth for AUD$36.76/month

No idea on vB support from them, just the hosting packages look good for Aussie based servers.

Unless you need root access, it is better to go with a premium shared host, instead of a cheap VPS. WiredTree / Liquidweb / URLJect etc are good hosts, but not based in Australia. If you have most of your traffic from Oz, it is better to have local host and probably you can ask the question at a local webmaster site.

I researched a lot of hosts in Aus 2 years ago or so and went with http://www.ventraip.com.au/

Highly recommend them. Have servers in both the Melbourne and Sydney NOC. Phone support etc. They are fast!
