I come in hope - AN old version of VB needs updating.

Dear All,

I have been a user of VB for many years now and one of my forums (for a Car Club) has been queitly doing its job for years with no issues.

Is still sitting on Version 2.3.7 - its never caused any issues and as you will see if you take a look has served that particular community well over the past 10 years.

Recently the host that provides the server hosting for that domain upgraded the databases and now the forum doesnt work properly (people cannot reply to posts). I have been told thats correct and we need to move the forum on. I understand that but it puts us in a bit of a tricky situation.


So my question is this:

Is it possible to migrate the DB and its content to a newer version and then upgrade the forums to a newer version - I am happy to pay what it takes to get this done if its beyond my technical abilities? This probably includes paying for a new version and paying for someone to do the work?

Can anyone help me on what direction to take or indeed offer a service to sort it out?

I don't recall the details, but while you wait for someone who does, basically you will need to do at least 2 upgrades I believe. One from 2.3.7 to one of the later 3.8.x versions, then from there to 4.1.10. There is possibly one somewhere in between but I'm not sure on that. However, upgrading from 2.x is indeed a large project, but it can be done. If you choose to pay someone for it, you'll need to post in the "Requests for Paid Services" forum at vbulletin.org.

A question - what is the difference between vbulliten.com and vbulliten.org?

I seem to be able to log on there also but get a red warning saying I am unlicenced?! I take it that must mean this ID is linked to that old VB forum? Again I am happy to pay to put it right.

I couldnt see a Requests for Paid Services' forum on the .org site - is that because I am somehow restricted?

vbulletin.com is the official site for the vBulletin script
vbulletin.org is the un-official vbulletin modification site

cbiweb is right, you'll need to run to updates.

You need to upgrade to at least 3.5.4 as a first step, then you can proceed onto either 3.8.x or 4.1.x, whichever you prefer.

BTW, Im curious as to why I get this ?
