Host Has High Server Loads - What to Do?

I host my vB site with a very well respected host, one that I pay a premium for over other hosts. Their service is awesome, but their server loads are very high. I have recently seen loads as high as 55 (on a 24 CPU box) and they are currently at 32 - which renders my site almost unusable. My forum is small, so I am not the cause by any means. This has been occurring off and on since a year ago December. There are always excuses (MySQL needed to be tuned, other customers are using too much, etc.).

I don't want to bash them, and I like them otherwise, but this is getting very frustrating. I have sent tickets, emails, screenshots, etc. What is my recourse? How can I work with them and move forward in a positive way?

In that scenario, it sounds like you may need to find a new host, as they will likely not change anything to help you. On another forum I admin, we are having similar issues, and through 2 weeks on back and forth, basically, they will do nothing other than suggest my client upgrades hosting to something that doesn't have the load issues, aka VPS or Dedicated, which for a forum with about 1000 visitors a day for a few months a year is quite unreasonable, with very few minor plugins.

If the host is respectable then they should know which accounts are causing high server loads and offer them alternative hosting, and not jeopardize other peoples accounts. It is easy for a host to do, but I guess they must have some strange policies.

I agree. they must have some server. if one server is high load, ask them to move to other server/ machine
