Might Need A New Host. Question About Ram Usage

I've been going back and forth with my host over extremely slow load timers recently. My traffic in general has dropped in the past 1.5 years where I would have 100 registered users that had come on during the day, I now get about 50-60, with 60-80 on peak days of the week. My "Guests": can go from being 200-300 viewing at a time and my traffic is only about 5-25 people on at a time most times, probably pushing 30 on peak days.

I was informed by my host that I'm exceeding my guaranteed ram. I am often using around 633MB of ran per process? i believe and I have 512 Guaranteed burstable up to 1GB. I am running on a VPS through Webhostingbuzz and it's in my range money wise of about $40 per month (willing to go to $45 per month if the performance is great enough to not have to worry in the near future with some slight traffic growth.

Why would my RAM be spiking so high all of the suddenly? Is it just the way that vBulletin is? I've done all of the various vBulletin optimization techniques out there that I could find on the web, I've got about 75% of my site using CSS Sprites, all custom images on the file server and not in the database. My traffic isn't really that much. The guest views spike when I tweet out links or post them on Facebook.

So I could possibly need help finding a Host that can provide for me at least 768MB of RAM in the $40 per month range

Here's a list of Errors i had recieved and such in case anyone wanted to see them :

Most of the time your VPS uses more than the guaranteed RAM limit. Please take a look at the current RAM usage:
    root@srv01 [/]# free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 1024 657 366 0 0 0
    -/+ buffers/cache: 657 366
When there’s no free RAM on the carrier, excess processes are killed by the scheduler and the new ones can't be started. Memory errors in Web server log we’ve mentioned are caused by the lack of RAM on your VPS. I’m afraid the only way to solve the current issue is upgrade to 768 MB guaranteed RAM quota.

cPanel is/can be resource hungry....Check it for services your not using and turn them off.

I've never turned off stuff in cPanel. how do I go about doing that?

Also, how much do you think does cPanel add to my memory usage problem that I am told I have?

but several days ago i have trouble with memory. so i uninstall my server. now i confidence use kloxo with lighttpd
cpanel i think need more than 512 MB to run it

If I upgraded my VPS to a higher service without cPanel that ran on guaranteed 768MB of RAM burstable to 2GB, 1.5 GHZ CPU. For a site that averages anywhere from 30-65 people online per day and only sparingly though the week can we see more than 15 people on at any one time during the day. Looking at our log, we generally average anywhere from 50-150 posts per day unless its peak time of the week (sports game since I run a sports website), then I can go from 200-1000.

Would this be more than sufficient for now and for some expanded growth?

KnownHost's Managed VPS hosting packages are based on cutting edge pure SSD drives. Enterprise grade high-performance hardware and SSD's with nothing but the best drives.

Buy the vs3 package here and you will have no problems at all or you may start with vs2 and custom upgrade your RAM if needed. Been with KH for 2 years now superb network, uptime and support. You just need to manage your forums and forget the server part with them!

The vs3 package you recommended comes with 1 GB RAM and costs $50 with a control panel. Please don't hype, otherwise it would sound like promotion.
For the same price, you can get a similar server from better known providers like wiredtree or ServInt. Mrdale96 could consider them as well.

Back to your original question, 512 MB RAM is very low, considering that cPanel itself could take half of it. You could also have few bots visiting your site, so with moderate traffic, you could run out of memory at times. Something like 1 GB RAM should give you a lot more breathing space.

Umm? I suggested him vs2 too which would be $40 with Cpanel (768mb RAM) which is exactly what he asked for. Why would i promote some host? I do not get any affiliate income or anything from them, the logic is simple i've been hosted on them for a long time and i find their support and hardware top notch. So i can recommend them if anyone posts up asking for some hosts.

You are saying KH is not well known? If you have the time do visit up webhostingtalk forums, they are considered one of the top VPS providers similar to WT or ServInt.

Again I'm not promoting them in any way! Just a happy satisfied customer speaking from his "own" experience.
