I started my site in 2001 on a shared host and over the years, as the site grew, was periodically upgrading the hosting plans.
The site now has 200,000 visitors a month, 30 Gb/day traffic, with 2/3 of the site running vBulletin 4.0.3 and 1/3 of the site running on Wordpress.
Before the upgrade to vBulletin version 4 the server was performing adequately, but after the upgrade the site became noticeably slower, with server load sometimes spiking to high numbers.
I am hosting website with PowerVPS, Fuse Advanced hosting package http://www.powervps.com/cpanel-plesk-vps_compare.aspx
I did try to follow advice given on this forum and elsewhere in order to optimize the server, however my technical expertise is limited.
At this point I am trying to work out how to proceed. I would either need to hire someone to optimize the server or to upgrade the hosting plan. Then how much mileage one could get from optimizing, without upgrading? If upgrading, what kind of server/package would I need to handle the load? Is PowerVPS a good host, or there are better options elsewhere?
