Would like advice, looking for new web host!

My current web host, Interactive Online, is complaining that my sites are using 30 percent memory/CPU on their servers and have requested that I must go to a Reseller package because their shared hosting only allows for 10 percent.

Now, this worries me because to the best of my knowledge my sites are nowhere near where I want them to be traffic wise so if they're complaining now what's going to happen when my sites grow.

I checked into Host Gator and they allow 25 percent memory/CPU usage which right off the bat is 15 percent more than Interactive Online. I've did some research on Host Gator and all reviews seem to be quite positive.

Can I get your thoughts on this situation and suggestions for a new web host?

    Thanks!

Any shared hosting environment is going to have quite strict limitation upon it, because you are sharing server resources with hundreds, if not a thousand different websites.

Rough guess... move to a more stable environment with a base entry level VPS solution... giving you much more resources with atleast a dedicated resource usage so you know your boundaries.

Hostgator is well known for over selling - thats why they offer very cheap hosting. As mentioned in the above post you probably would be better off with a basic VPS. You could always contact www.urljet.com whom are vBulletin specialists and see a huge difference in speed to your forum, they use LiteSpeed over Apache which gives you a significant speed increase. My hosting is done with UrlJet and I would recommend them. You can contact them and they will listen and give you a package suitable for your needs.

I've been using aSmallOrange for almost 6 years now, with little problem. In my experience the only issue that gets a little frustrating is they do experience more downtime than I like, but it's not a huge deal most of the time. Their customer service and support has been awesome. And they don't oversell or make promises they don't keep.

Is the forum in question the one in your signature? If yes then there is no way it is causing that much load, unless they are hosting the sites on a P3!

At the moment you might want to disable that stats program and see if it helps, otherwise move to another shared host (I would suggest mddhosting.com) for now, which isn't this bad!

Worth talking to Tim at www.globalgold.co.uk - they are well known for hosting larger sites but they do have plans for smaller sites too. They actually specialise in vBulletin sites.

I moved my fairly large site there in March this year based on recommendations in this very forum - and I have not looked back since.

Aren't they unmanaged host? If yes then you have to be quite proficient with linux to manage it, unless you are ok with causing downtime for your forum!

Limitations may vary from host to host. You may try another shared host to check if your forum is really causing load.

I have been with Real Web Host for two years now and not a single day of down time, at least not that I can remember. In those two years I screwed up my data base a couple of times by doing things a little over my head and they always responded to my distress calls and got me back up and didn't talk down to me. Great Bunch of Folks There.
