  • Which OS does your vB instance run on?

Poll created: Saturday; May 17, 2008. Last Updated: Saturday; May 17, 2008 (5:47 PM)

This thread is for vBulletin owners who want to share which operating system (Linux, Mac, Windows..) they run on. I are getting a lot of questions from users who are interested to find out, and perhaps this poll can give them a good impression.

Note: Please vote, but if your OS is not listed then leave a reply and I will update the poll (after which you can vote on it). I will state clearly at the top of this post when I last updated the poll.

I have made the poll multiple choice since there are a few of us who run both shared hosting, vps and dedicated servers for a few of our vB powered sites.

Used to run on RHEL 4 when we had a dedicated server, but now it's running on CentOS. - Not by choice though.

I currently run mine on FreeBSD 6.1 but am migrating to FreeBSD 7.0 for various reasons.

I mainly run my hosting service on a CentOS 5 VPS. Running two vBulletins on it at the moment (one license, another friend has new license)

I would almost consider RHEL and CentOS to be the same thing.

Also, Fedora 9 is now out, and I wouldn't even hesitate to say it blows Ubuntu out of the water.

One important one that shouldn't be forgotten is OpenBSD. After all, where would we be without their hard work? Using pretty crappy SSH tools, that's where, haha.

As well, don't forget Gentoo (since that's pretty much the majority of what my host runs, along with some RHEL boxes, I think).

Got a Centos 5x powered VPS, earlier I had a reseller account on a Centos powered server. Pretty satisfied with Centos's performance, currently the VPS is up for over 38 days without a reboot.

I got my sites on dedicated box centos5 32bit and runs pretty smooth. I am in doubt if I should have gone with ubuntu though.

I want to add more, but the poll only appears to allow 13 items.. I 've for now set fedora 8 to fedora 8 or 9.

                            Ubuntu 8 Server Edition

Er, there are generally 2 releases per year

                            Ubuntu 6.06 LTS 'Dapper Drake'
                            Ubuntu 6.10 'Edgy Eft'
                            Ubuntu 7.04 'Feisty Fawn'
                            Ubuntu 7.10 'Gutsy Gibbon'
                            Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 'Hardy Heron'

That's 5 versions you've merged down into two options

With only 13 poll options and 75 versions of distributions, one has to make sacrifices.
