    will this support my forum?

I was wondering if this dedicated server here will support my forum without issues of speed or performance.

    Pentium 3 Dual 1.4GHz2GB18GB SCSI

my forum runs about 1,700 users per day visiting and has been at 2,000 members per day before consistently.

I appreciate any prompt helpful responses!

Sounds like a busy forum. I presume your dedicated offering isn't presented as high-end, but it's surely adequate. A lot of this depends on the number of simultaneous MySQL connections and how many are doing something at any one time in terms of accessing your forum. You might also look at a good VPS connection, which can save you a fair amount of money. That assumes you don't have other high-trafficked sites to handle.

    Peace,
    Gene

It would seem that such things are dependent on your host's data connection, not the box, which, as I said, seems adequate.

I recommend you to upgrade the processor. Otherwise, the SCSI is good and 2 GB is enough for the traffic.

This might be able to handle the load, but why not just get a better processor?

And, if it was necessary, could he upgrade the processor at a reasonably low fee?

Will depend on numbers of users at any give time really. If you mean you will have 1700 users on your forums at once at any given time I think you would need more horsepower. If it is 1700 users spread out over the course of the day it should be ok.

                      Uniques or what?

We have about that, all uniques, with about a million page views, total, on all our sites on a VPS plan.

                      Peace,
                      Gene

i did end up going with the server for a test month here since it cant be worse than the old one and it is doing very very well, moving really fast and currently (knock on wood) no issues to speak of

I dont like to panic you but that sounds like a very old machine. As you are running just of a single hard drive (probably one from the 1990s) I suggest you take frequent backups of your site/database to an offsite location.
