                Hello all,

I'm starting a very small forum with a few members using vBulletin and the vBadvanced home page setup. I've been told that since I'm starting out small that using a shared hosting plan would work for me.

Anyone have any ideas/comments/suggestions about who to look into about a shared hosting plan? I've been given a few suggestions already....

MediaLayer, Netwisp, Steadfast, SYN....any others that I should look at? Are these good/bad/ugly?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

                  I would recommend my webhost.
I have been with them for more than 4 years and is still hosting my site with them. They are very responsive to all my support questions. I seldom run into any problem and server uptime is very good. After all, they have been in the hosting business since 2001. I would say their service is reliable and come highly recommended. Check them out at http://www.mxhub.com .

                      Tech Savvy Peeps

I recently purchased vBulletin 3.6.8 patch level 2 for my website

                      Here is my problem.

I have a Windows shared host with Go Daddy and it will not run the vBulletin 3.6.8 on their Window's shared server. They told me that I would have to use their shared Linux server and even that is limited. I have everything designed in asp.net 2.0 and I do not want to convert everything over to php (YUK).

Do any of you tech savvy individuals out there know of any Windows shared hosting servers that love the vBulletin 3.6.8 and will not limit any capabilities with SQL or asp etc. I do not need a dedicated server yet.

Your insight would be greatly appreciated?

                      Cheers,

                      Mr. Speakurpique

                        InMotion Hosting

Premium Web Hosting on Linux Servers with 99.99% Uptime. Domains, Email & WordPress Solutions with 24x7 Customer Support & Money-Back Guarantee.

                        The Plan

The "Launch" Business Class hosting (shared hosting) for small/starting websites.

                        The Experience

I spent just under two years with InMotion, and during that time I never had issues with downtime (that were the server's fault - I did have some phpbb issues before I switched to vBulletin).

The customer support is available 24/7, and they were always both competent and helpful. It was my first website, so I did require a lot of help sometimes, and a lot of help is what I received. In addition to that, I had the opportunity to become adapted to cPanel, which was nice.

My departure had nothing to do with the service, so the fact that I am no longer with them should not deter anyone from signing with InMotion. It was always very good hosting at an excellent price.

                        Cons

If there were any, I didn't run into them. Then again, my needs were pretty simple for most of that time.

Why use a shared for 100 bucks a month when you can get a dedicated celeron at cari.net with the plesk cp for like 80 bucks a month.

I hate plesk and they don't offer cpanel but if I had a small site I would use them.
I used them for about a year and got my feet wet in the dedicated field somewhat.

                            Switched Hosts..

After researching for some time about a host to switch my forums to, I decided to go a VPS with KnownHost off of the praise they recieve here. I migrated my 4500 members/1 million post SMF forum to vB and everything went according to plan with no issues.

The server seems to handle everything fine, even though I know there were probably some moments durring the import process that pegged the CPU utilization.

So far I am happy with them! The server seems to handle everything just as well as the dedicated server I was using before.

                              URLJet Hosting?

I've found www.URLJet.com and they seem to take a lot of pride in saying the will host and maintain your vBulletin board. They even publish a phone number on their site to call them... which is almost unusual .

                              Anybody had experience with URLjet.com?
