    High or normal Ram Usage?

Running vbulletin 3.5.4 with around 50-80 current users online and a total of 4,000+ members with Ram usage @ 685.36 MB (67.54%) (1gb Ram, 3ghz P4 dedicated server) Is this normal?, I have edited some of the setting such as extended cache etc.

    Regards,

If you are running a Linux server, it's not so straight forward as some of the appeared RAM usage is actually reserved RAM and not actually RAM in use. If you start swapping frequently, then that's an indication that you need to upgrade your RAM.

(SWAP = Virtual memory allocated on your hard drive for when you have exceeded the amount of available RAM. As your hard drive will be somewhat slower than RAM, you will notice a significant performance decrease if your server starts swapping to disk.)

Given that, you will also be able to notice when swap is in effect as your server loads will increase depending on how hard the swap is being hit.

As for the current RAM usage, linux, be it CentOS, RedHat, Fedora or any other normally will reserve memory for use and if it isn't used in a certain period of time, it is 'released' and picked up.

Check your loads and see how they are fairing with the memory usage and use 'top' in SSH to see what is eating up the memory if it isn't specifically being reserved.
