Need help from experianced people

I have a site developed with Frontpage 2000 using HTML, JavaScript, ASP and Access database.

I really like to have Vbulletin forums on the site. The problem is that my hosting co. http://www.atfreeweb.com does not provide cgi/perl or MySQL, php etc.


I need your help in finding a hosting co. which provides me all the stuff I need to have Vbulletin and also I can keep all what I have(Frontpage 2000 using HTML, JavaScript, ASP and Access database).

I dont know how many Megs minimum I need (since my site is a new one).

My site is not making any money and I dont think it will do in next couple of years, so being a student I need a cheaper hosting co.

Correct me if I am wrong guys....

But to get a host like that is near impossible.

Sure, u can have ChiliSoft ASP, but then u need MSSQL for the database.

Then there is MySQL/PHP - commonly found on Linux and it is unusual to find a WinNT box running it as MySQL for Win32 isn't incredibly stable.

So what should I do? Do you think if I drop ASP and Access then I would be able to find a cheaper host?
I am paying under 10 bucks/month.

But I want to keep FrontPage 2000.

Hey Wilson, I'm using webhostingmedia.net and I know they offer all the main features like php, asp and so on... I'm sure that you could find there the features you need to put a vbulletin on your site. I pay $7.95 every month. I find it kind of affordable and I understand that you, as a student, surely do not have big money for hosting. Therefore I would recommend them to you, so you can save some daugh for chicks too !

tera-byte.com offers PHP, ASP and Access support only like WildWayz said in ways ASP and Access don't do well on Unix.

You would be better off learning PHP and using MySQL. If you know ASP it isn't a hard to switch plus PHP can do so much more with ease.

OK I will do what ever it takes to have vb board.

But can I use frontpage to develop (and upload) my site and use PHP/MySQL for vb board?

whats good way to learn PHP? any links, books?

There are several great sites to learn PHP and several GREAT people to help you as well. Just point your search engine to PHP. As far as FP2000, I use it only I don't use the editor part. I setup FP to open any PHP files with EditPlus because just like before with FP98 re-writing your code FP2000 will change all your <? tags.

Also..

If you want to get away from the wicked evil bad FP 2000, you can always use Dreamweaver 4 instead. It'll not change your html or yourphp and it has nice editing and ftp built in...

I use FP for the mere use of constant FTP connections when editing files. When using CuteFTP etc, there are to many damn click buttons to edit a single file plus you have to open it, edit, close, re-open, re-edit, etc...

So your saying DW4 works well?
