forum.php?s=cf6b1335512fed6bc96445b349

I just noticed in Firefox that when you first visit my site it takes you to forum.php but then on the end there's an ?s= and a random string of characters. Can anyone tell me what this is? I'm running 4.2.0 and using Google Analytics, VigLink, and vBSEO.

    Thanks!

Nope. But in VBSEO, you can go to SEO Functions -> Homepage Settings -> and enter

    forum.php

    forum.php?

    index.php

    index.php?

    forumdisplay.php

This feature will help consolidate PR (Google PageRank) in your forum homepage. Many established forums will have different PRs in forum home (usually up to three), as an example:

    www.yoursite.com/forums/ (PR = A)
    www.yoursite.com/forums/index.php (PR = B)
    www.yoursite.com/forums/index.php? (PR = C)

This is a typical "PageRank Leakage" issue and might also lead search engines to tag these pages as duplicate content.

Filenames entered here will be 301 redirected to your forum's homepage as defined through your vBulletin's Admin CP. Enter one (1) filename per line.

    Examples:
    index.php
    index.php?

It is the public part of your session hash. Obviously the salt is not revealed here or anything that was used to create it but its your session ID. If you use Google Webmaster Tools you will realize that Google will latch on to it and realize that it is meaningless for its purposes and is an unimportant variable. The goal of SEO is still to hide these variables from appearing as much as possible on dynamically controlled pages. So this is what the functionality I mentioned in VBSEO is for.

Do you have any type of private browsing enabled? The session key is used to keep track of who you are when cookies are turned off as well.
