I want to report that I'm still using Apache 2, but I have upgraded to 5.1.2 as recommended by this thread. It is working much better (thanks!), and 5.1.2 is an improvement over 4.4.4. There are still the momentary crashes that occur a few times per day, but there are fewer of them.
I tried to upgrade to 5.2.0 again this morning, but I couldn't get it to work with APC enabled, so I went back to 5.1.2 for now.Comment

I had about 7 weeks of relatively stable operation when things started to fall apart again.
Per these threads:
I have upgraded/converted to php 5.2.0.
I'm still running in ISAPI mode.
Seems fast and efficient.
Over 8 hours with NO problems.
I should note that PHP.net is very strong about folks upgrading from the 5.1 series which they characterize as "obsolete".
I guess they want to kill a bad seed.
There is also a Zend/MS fast-cgi implementation out that is supposed to be nice.Last edited by Dabbler; Fri 8 Dec '06, 8:27am.Comment

Upgraded to PHP 5.2.2
Post PHP 5.1, I was unable to upgrade my PHP version in IIS6. I tested the new PHP 5.2.2 and it worked on my Dev box. After that I deployed on my production box. Its working like breeze and occasional Access violation errors of PHP 5.1 have stopped coming now.
I will definitely recommend PHP 5.2.2.Comment
