php question : redirect based on HTTP_REFERR ?

hi,

I have two domains, lets called them www.apples.com and www.banannas.com

Now I don't use apples.com, and I want to get rid of the hosting for that site, and I want a request for www.apples.com to go to www.banannas.com/apples/ and I will put a few files of apples.com in that folder to explain that we have moved.

Is this physically possible ? I would love to save on 1 of my hosting plans. Or is there something I can tell my host to do ?

This can easily be done without PHP, using either a .htaccess file, or by setting up the DNS settings of the apples.com domain correctly.

Any pointers on how to do it wit .htaccess as that would be the easiest for me to do I think.

This line in a .htaccess file in the root of th apples.com web directory should work:
Redirect / http://www.banannas.com/

Thanks colin but that won't work.

I want to get rid of my hosting a/c for apples.com.

Also that will only redirect all traffic that looks for www.apples.com to www.banannas.com where I want it to go to www.banannas.com/apples/

You can extend that to redirect to the apples subdirectory.
What you're looking for seems to be an addon domain though.
Your host should easily be able to set this up for you.
