    Php 5

    Hi!

Is there any need to upgrade to PHP 5 atm? Cause I hear a lot of 'bad' stories of it, and my forums are running fine at:
    PHP 4.4.2
    MySQL Version 4.1.19-standard-log

So do I have to upgrade?

If you are not having problems, I wouldn't worrry about upgrading., php 4.4.2 is a fine build.

I'm running two production servers on PHP4 with no problems at all. I'd like to see PHP5 become more tried-and-true before I upgrade.

          Ok..

I asked because I heared about new features in PHP 5, but there are still problems with it.

Maybe waiting for PHP 6 ?

PHP5's first stable release was back in July 2004 - it's now up to 5.1.4 so it should be fairly stable by now.

On the same note, I have been running PHP5 since it's beta days and I find it to be perfectly stable now. Just as stable as PHP4.

            Thanks,
            Alan.

                Yeah. I agree with you.

The upgrade to PHP 5 is only necessary if you want to use the new features of PHP 5. If you just want to run an application like vBulletin, SMF, phpBB, ... there should be no problems using PHP 4.

In both cases (PHP 4 or 5) .. always be up to date.
